El lebrero 2021 (Bodegas Felix Callejo)

Enjoy it now, or cellar for a few years. No need to decant before serving. El Lebrero is a crisp white wine, created in the Burgos region of Spain from the native Albillo Mayor grape. It begins with clean aromas of green apple, ripe pear, white flowers and grated lemon zest. It comes from the edge of the Ribera del Duero basin - a land best known for bold red wines, yet this bottle of white can match any of them in terms of quality. Bodegas Felix was founded in 1989 aby the wine-making husband and wife Félix and Pilar Callejo and has been carried into the modern age aby their four children, who bring a wealth of experience from all across the wine world. In 2021, they were chosen as winemakers of the year żeby Master of Wine Tim Atkin. El Lebrero vineyard grows on a mixture of clay loam and sandy-limestone soil, imparting a chalky, mineral finish to the wine. However, on each sip, you can also find rich pure flavours of orchard fruits, citrus, buttered toast, and a saline edge. It is an excellent white wine, made from a rarely seen grape varietal. Before release, El Lebrero spent 8 months ageing on the lees, in egg-shaped concrete casks. Consider pairing it with white fish, buttery shellfish, or soft cheese.
