Founded in 1870 in Vilafranca del Penedés, the family-owned Torres winery is one of Spain's leading wine and brandy producers. Currently, the company, which produces a wide range of products from numerous denominations, is managed aby the fourth and fifth generations of the family. Outside of Spain, Miguel Torres produces organic wines in Chile, where he established his business in 1979, and in California, where he opened the Marimar Estate in 1983. Cabernet Sauvignon Mas de la Plata is one of Spain's most iconic and innovative red wines. The grapes come from calcareous soils located in the Penedes appellation, where the plants enjoy favorable climatic conditions for the production of quality wines. After the harvest, the grapes are fermented in wood. The finished wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. The color is deep crimson with garnet hues. It is a wine characterized aby a good density and a complex aromatic profile with notes of plum, black cherry, and mulberry, followed aby herbal, spicy, and cocoa hints. On the palate, it is rich and powerful, dry and harmonious, dense and meaty. The tannins are velvety and the finish is long and mineral. Perfect in general with meat, it is a must-try with roast lamb or beef stew.
