Cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant before serving. Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind's marriage in 1959 brought together two illustrious wine-making families, with a long tradition of grape growing. Since that time, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht has become one of the most respected names in Alsace, creating a remarkable range of cool climate wines. The winery is now led aby Olivier Humbrecht, a firm believer in the untapped potential of Pinot Gris. This example is sourced from the hilltop vineyard called Rotenberg, in the village of Wintzenheim. The vineyard benefits from a combination of high-altitude and low-yielding vines, giving its grapes an exhilarating, fresh acidity. Pale yellow in the glass, this Pinot Gris shows a perfectly balanced bouquet. Peach, apricot, and white-fleshed fruits dominate, with an undercurrent of minerality and zesty citrus fruits. There is no need to fully decant, but it may benefit from a few minutes of breathing before serving. The palate is classically Pinot Gris, elegant and precise, with flavours of yellow fruits and sharp lemon and lime. It is mouth-wateringly dry and held together by a tightrope of acidity. This makes it a versatile wine for food pairings - you can bring it out on almost any occasion. Consider pairing it with seafood, white flakey fish, quiche, or chicken.
