Cellar for 25 years or more. Decant for 2 hours or more before serving. A fragrant nose of red and black cherry, dried tobacco, iron-rich soil, orange peel and crushed stone greets you from the beginning. The Sangiovese grapes were harvested from the Ugolaia plot, a magical vineyard that grows on red soils, approximately 300 metres above sea level in the southwest of the Montalcino appellation. Lisini is one of the few families making Brunello in this region of Montalcino. The villa is located in the small town of Sant’Angelo in Colle, and was built in the old Tuscan style of stone and terracotta – reflecting the rustic, traditional style of the family’s wines. Today it is headed by two brothers, Carlo and Lorenzo Lisini, with help from their cousin, Ludovica. In the mouth, Ugolaia is a tactile, full-blooded red wine. It is dominated żeby flavours of fruit and earth – look for wild raspberry, cassis, and blackberry, intertwined with leather, dark chocolate, and smoke. The tannins are fine-grained and velvety, making this a wine that can be enjoyed young or cellared for some time. It was aged for four years in Slavonian oak, and a bit longer in the bottle, before release. It’s perfect for pairing with tomato sauces, steak, or mature cheese.
