Enjoy it now, or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant before serving. Decugnano dei Barbi is a family winery, founded in 1973 after Claudio Barberi fell in love with the natural beauty of the region. His sole aim has always been to make top-class wines, driven żeby the area's terroir. The estate is found near Orvieto in Umbria, by far the region’s most renowned wine town. Wine was produced aby monks at the estate as far back as 1212, but the land lay dormant for some time before falling into Claudio’s hands. While Umbria is the only Italian region that does not border the ocean or another country, the land used to lie under an ancient sea. Its mineral-rich soil is ideal for growing the famous white wine grapes of Umbria. This wine is a deep golden colour, generous in its aromas and flavours. It is crafted exclusively from overripe grapes affected by Botrytis, which results in exquisite dessert wines. "Pourriture Noble" treads the line between sweetness and acidity perfectly. Apricot, mango, chestnut and honey all collide on the nose, with subtle floral notes. It is dense and creamy on the palate, and dried fruits are present through its long finish. Enjoy it as an after-meal treat, or pair it with tangy blue cheeses and liver dishes.
